What to include in a cable management RFQ

Prepare a clearer cable management enquiry with product details, dimensions, fittings, technical documents, quantities and the project delivery location.

A useful cable management RFQ makes it clear what must be quoted, what remains open for discussion and which documents the project needs. It does not need to begin with a complete drawing package. Start with the product name, then add the details that are available.

Identify the product and construction

State whether you need cable trays, ladders, trunking, strut channels, C channels, brackets, lintels or accessories. For trays, identify perforated or solid-bottom construction when specified. For composite products, use GRP/FRP terminology alongside the required construction and material description.

Keep steel and composite options separately identified. If a finish such as hot-dip galvanising is required, include the applicable project requirement. If material selection is still open, describe the installation environment and ask for alternatives to be clearly separated in the offer.

Provide dimensions and quantities in a schedule

Use one line for each distinct item. Include width, depth, length, thickness or a profile reference where known, plus the quantity and unit. Separate straight lengths from fittings so a reducer, bend or cover is not hidden inside a general allowance. Mark missing dimensions as “to confirm” in the enquiry rather than guessing them.

For a mixed requirement, the Bonn Metals product directory can help organize the categories. Coordinate accessories with the relevant tray or ladder system rather than assuming that parts from different systems will fit together.

Describe the route and installation conditions

Include indoor or outdoor use, project location, exposure and any process conditions relevant to material selection. For tray and ladder systems, provide the cable loading and proposed support spacing where available. Identify who will confirm unresolved design inputs.

Include the supports and fixings that belong in the supply scope. State whether brackets, strut framing, fasteners, covers, joints and route fittings should be quoted. Give relevant interface requirements for the surrounding construction or equipment.

List the technical documents required

Ask for the drawings, material and finish data, installation information and load/span evidence needed for review. Identify project standards by title and edition where specified. Ask the supplier to confirm which supporting documents apply to the actual offered item.

For example, IEC 61537:2023 covers cable tray and ladder systems and excludes trunking from its scope. This is why a general “cable management standard” note should be checked against the product being procured. A request for evidence is separate from a verified product compliance claim.

Make the commercial scope clear

  • Delivery emirate and the required programme, including phased quantities if relevant.
  • Which items form the base requirement and which are optional alternatives.
  • Required quotation breakdown, packing or handling information and document submissions.
  • Any order, payment or delivery conditions that must be reviewed.

Availability, minimum order quantities, delivery commitments and commercial terms should be confirmed in the quotation. A website category page does not establish stock or a delivery guarantee.

Questions before sending an RFQ

Can I enquire with only a product name?

Yes. Use the Bonn Metals enquiry form or WhatsApp to start the discussion. Add dimensions, quantities and the project emirate when available.

Do I need to upload drawings?

No drawing upload is required for the initial website enquiry. The team can discuss any additional information needed for the proposed offer.
